The first advertisement film to win the National Award in India is “The Shower,” which earned the Best Promotional Film honor at the 67th National Film Awards in the non-feature film category for the year 2019. Due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the award was announced in 2021. This enchanting film was directed by the talented Bauddhayan ‘Buddy’ Mukherji and produced by Avishek Ghosh. The screenplay was crafted by Kainaz Karmakar and Harshad Rajadhyaksha, with production design by Monalisa Mukherji.

The film’s aesthetic was meticulously styled by Dhara Nagchandi and beautifully shot by Sejal Shah. The editing magic was woven by Arghyakamal Mitra, with color grading by Miten Udeshi and online editing by Niket Sharma. The evocative music score was composed by Vipin Mishra, and the sound mix was expertly handled by Bishwadeep Chatterjee.
“The Shower” has not only changed the narrative around water conservation but also garnered international acclaim. It was shortlisted at Cannes and won numerous awards including the IPAF at Seoul, Best PSA at the Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival, and accolades at the Kyoorius and Olive Crown Awards in India. It also received the Platinum Remi at WorldFest-Houston among other honors.
